It was just after 6 pm on a Monday and though we were guaranteed a dry night, it had not ceased pouring! Paul and I were seated there discussing the golf results, at the ready for the sixth job to arrive. Inevitably we received the phone call from a lady on a company expedition who had arrived at the Texaco petrol garage in Wardley and filled petrol in her diesel beautiful Peugeot 307 hire car by mistake. The unfortunate thing was somewhat troubled it seemed, saying "I can't believe that I have destroyed the vehicle! I am just so accustomed to filling up my petrol car that I completely forgot I was operating a diesel!" I just told her to calm down and not to be concerned, and also that things like this unfortunately often happen. She managed to relocate the car into a safe area and, as it was just a few miles off from our van, we were able to reach the customer right away. The bad fuel was cleaned up and removed and she could return to the hotel she was living in. Even though we got pretty soaked, it was all rewarding seeing her drive off contented and less anxious. Yet another misfuel correction in West Sussex done well in my mind!

The 3 things you SHOULD know about petrol in diesel!

Out of Fuel Services

Out of fuel in Wardley (out of gas - as an American would say)? We operate a complete West Sussex Run Out of Fuel Service. We are able to help to refill your vehicle any time you are stranded on the motorway, roadside in the middle of nowhere, or just at home. Our engineers can attend with 10-20 litres of the right fuel (purchased at cost) and refill your car. They can also handle any of the most common troubles which could go with running out of fuel - like airlocks, vehicle not restarting, , or even flat batteries as a consequence of over-cranking.

Water Contamination or AdBlue Contamination

Water contaminated fuel, no matter whether it is petrol or diesel, is undoubtedly an important situation to deal with in a vehicle - particularly in advanced common-rail engines.

Having water or AdBlue inside your diesel or petrol can potentially trigger idling issues, irregular running, abnormal smoke and, if not dealt with fully, oftentimes broken injectors. Having water in petrol is quicker to get rid of as compared with water in diesel - this is mainly due to the fact that diesel is an oil. Even so we are able to resolve both situations rather swiftly.

You should know though that as long as the vehicle was started with the water contaminated fuel it will very likely require a new fuel filter fitted simply because the previous one will likely be completely wet and ineffective.

Ahhh, that was a great night of sleep! It was 7:00 am on a sunny Sunday and I was en route to assist an older sweetheart after she put petrol in her diesel metallic silver Chrysler Grand Voyager in Wardley. She informed us that she had left the filling station forecourt and stranded in a country lane along the way to pay a visit to her family. I popped her location in the Satnav and arrived inside an hour or so. I reached the destination and removed the contaminated fuel in the car vehicle. As I was doing the drain she said to me, "I have been becoming somewhat absent-minded in my senior years and didn't remember about the car working with diesel because I had only just acquired it several days back after my old one, which I had had for about 25 years, finally broke down". I got the drain done and she offered me a Murray mint and thanked me for my work. What a delightful West Sussex woman!
